Time Management Worksheet
The term “Time Management” is a bit of a misnomer. There really is no way to “manage time.” It progresses forward in a steady rhythm of passing seconds, oblivious to the efforts of those who try to control it.
Time is also a great equalizer – we are all granted the exact same amount of it in each and every day. It then falls to each of us to make the best use of the time we are given.
A great first step toward achieving this goal is to become conscious of exactly how much “free” time you have available. This Time Management Worksheet was designed to help you do that.
Time Management Worksheet
Total Number of Hours In a Week: 168
(-) Time Spent Sleeping: _____56___ (assumes 8 hours per night)
(-) Time at Work (including commuting time): __50__ (9 hours a day + 30 minute commute each way 5x/week)
(-) Eating (including prep/clean up): _14_(2 hours a day)
(-) Recreation (i.e., exercise, relaxing): _14_ (2 hours a day)
(-)Miscellaneous (i.e., walking the dog, running errands): _7_ (1 hour a day)
Time Left Over: 27 hours per week!
27 hours a week is a good chunk of time to work on advancing your goals, don’t you think?
Of course, you may have more or less time than this example (which uses “average” assumptions) – but the point is that you most likely DO have some free time lying around that can be used to accomplish your goals and objectives.
But, are you happy with what you’ve accomplished over the last 6 months with your available time – or has time somehow slipped by without much forward movement?
If you aren’t quite sure exactly how you are spending your time – you might want to try keeping a detailed time log for at least one week. You may be surprised at how much time you spend on unproductive activities like mindlessly surfing the Internet or watching reality TV.
Don’t beat yourself up regarding this – but be honest in your assessment here. You don’t need to share your findings with anyone – but you do need to know where you are starting in order to move forward!
