What is Private Label Rights Content?

By now, you are probably already familiar with the concept of Private Label Rights content (also known simply as “PLR”).

But, what exactly does it mean – and why should you care?

This article offers an overview of what Private Label Rights content is all about – and provides a few ways you can use PLR products to build a successful business without spending a fortune or a lot of time.

Private Label Rights (PLR) products allow online entrepreneurs to make money with very little overhead.  (And who doesn’t want to have a business that makes  more money than it costs? :) ) PLR content is a powerful tool you can add to your Content Marketing Toolbox to make this happen.

What is Private Label Rights Content?

Private Label Rights content includes materials (articles, reviews, reports, eCourses, etc…) written by someone else that you have the rights to use as you choose. This type of content can be purchased in packs (or as a monthly membership) and normally revolves around a particular niche or subject. One nice thing about PLR content is that once purchased, you have access to content specifically created to draw targeted traffic to your web site.

For example, let’s say you have site that sells products for dogs.  One type of Private Label Rights content you could purchase would be a bundle of articles related to dog training methods.  Each of these articles could be reworked to add new content to your site each week. This would give your current visitors something new to read, while drawing in new ones.  In addition, that content could also be used to promote your own products or affiliate products for other programs.

(Note: there are good and bad PLR providers out there – and I’ve encountered both. I personally use and recommend EasyPLR.com because it is reasonably priced (around $1 per article), doesn’t involve an ongoing subscription, is sold in limited quantities and frankly, the writing is solid – which makes it a lot easier for me to rework it into something new for my own sites).

Your Rights When You Buy PLR Articles (or Other PLR Content)

It is important to understand your rights when working with Private Label Rights content. PLR  means that you are entitled to rewrite any part of the content you’d like and then put your name on it. You didn’t write it but you have the right to claim it as your own.  However, most PLR site owners have a list of the ways you are allowed to use or not use the content you purchase from them. For example, most PLR site owners will allow you to give the content away for free, post it to your site or blog and use it in newsletters or for membership sites. However, many will not allow you to publish the content to article directories or resell it to others with the same rights.  Just make sure you are familiar with the rules of each site before you begin using content from it.

Being able to use Private Label Rights content for your web site or blog is partly what makes it so valuable. Most people simply don’t have unlimited amounts of time to create great content on a regular basis. Internet users are voracious consumers of information and fresh content is a large part of what draws them back to the same site again and again.

If  you are trying to build a business, it may be difficult to devote enough time to content writing because you have to concentrate on other tasks, as well. PLR content makes your job much easier than starting from scratch and is much less costly than hiring a quality ghostwriter to do it for you.  PLR products allow you to satisfy your visitors with informative articles – which, in turn, can help convert them from one-time visitors to longer-term customers.

As you can see, when used correctly, high-quality Private Label Rights content can help build your online business more quickly than if you try to write all your content yourself.  Plus, it will cost lot less than if you hire someone else to write it all for you. It can be a great way to supplement your own efforts and make your business profitable much sooner than you might have thought possible.
