If you spend any time at all online, odds are you use Adobe software to open and read PDF files.

Unfortunately, the bad guys have been hard at work trying to find ways to make life just a little bit more challenging for online users. Computer hackers have found a new way to take advantage of a long-recognized flaw in the way Adobe’s software executes JavaScript code and started sending out infected PDFs last Friday. Even though the attacks are not currently widespread, they are expected to become more prevalent as information about the bug gets into more of the wrong hands.

According to Adobe, the simplest way to avoid being affected by this is to turn off the JavaScript code in both Acrobat and Reader. To do this, open the program, select “Edit” and then “Preferences.”  Then, go down and click on “JavaScript” – and uncheck “Enable Acrobat JavaScript.”
