Is it possible to learn Internet Marketing in an hour a day? I honestly don’t know. I’m pretty fascinated with it and spend far more than a single hour each day adding to my knowledge base on this topic – and even though I know “a lot,” I am sure there is much left to learn. Internet Marketing, after all, is a constantly changing field. I’ve read that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something (which also strikes me as a random number). At that rate, you could claim expert status in just under 27.5 years.
Sounds motivating…
What I do know is that one hour a day can greatly enhance what you know about anything – and might even help make your business more profitable. If your goal is to learn Internet Marketing, setting aside time each day (or blocks of time several times a week) will certainly help you gain a functional understanding.
Because Internet Marketing is such a broad term and there are so many different facets to learn, perhaps the best place to start is to figure out what your ultimate objective is. For example, are you looking to gain more exposure for your offline business? Or are you hoping to create an online business to supplement your retirement? Understanding “why” you want to learn Internet Marketing will help you focus your learning efforts and maximize the effectiveness of the time you invest.
Based on what I do for a living – my primary “why” is a no-brainer. I need to stay on top of what is going on in Internet Marketing so I can make sound recommendations to my clients and produce the very best copy I can for them. Having an in-depth understanding of what works in terms of search engine optimization/content marketing is one of the most valuable things I have to offer.
Beyond my livelihood, however, I have a couple of personal projects that fuel my desire to continue to learn Internet Marketing. In my next post, I’ll share with you one of the best things I’ve discovered in terms of moving from a passive learning experience toward taking more active steps to further my understanding in this field.
I think this idea may help you, too.

Trish,
This sounds like a great idea.Just one hour a day and I”m certain you can gain valuable new knowledge.Sounds like a good way to broaden your horizons.
As a mother of a pre-schooler, it feels like I really only have one extra hour per day to spend “expanding my horizons”. However, I am considering starting a home based business so educating myself in Internet Marketing seems like a wise (if not absolutely necessary!) way to invest my time. I’m looking forward to additional articles on this topic.
I agree – investing a consistent hour each day to learning any topic will give you a competitive advantage over the long term.
The trick is 1st to “find” the time – then be consistent in using it.
