Today, I just want to share a couple final pointers for customizing your aWeber email opt-in form.
I’ll start by saying these things drove me absolutely batty until I learned how to solve them… so figured it might save you some time if I shared them here.
The first I’ve already mentioned – how to reduce the padding in the headers, body and footers of your opt-in form. It’s really quite simple – you just click on the “Advanced” tab (you’ll need to select the area you want to edit from the drop down menu … i.e., header, body or footer) and decrease the padding number indicated. (If you’d like to see a screenshot of this , click here – it is about 2/3 of the way down the page).
See Below for the Before and After:
Notice how much less “wasted” space there is between the arrow and sign-up area on the “After” shot?
This might not seem like a big deal – (these small images don’t do it justice) – but when placed in a narrow sidebar – the 1st option ate up the entire area above-the-fold.
Pretty valuable real estate to lose to empty space, don’t ya think?
(Oh yeah – I’ve since further improved this opt-in form header (+ the one for PLRConnection.com) by offering a 50% off coupon for your first purchase – the holder copy you see there is pretty weak).
The final pointer I’d like to share is if you select the “javascript” code when you install the forms onto your site – any future edits you make to the form while in your aWeber account will automatically update on your site. That will save you from having to keep going in and changing the code each time – which is particularly helpful if you are a “tweaker” like me!)
There is one caveat to this, however. I’ve read some complaints online where the javascript versions don’t display correctly on all browsers – I personally haven’t found a problem in either Internet Explorer or Firefox – but if you are worried about it, use the raw HTML version. It won’t auto-update for you – but once you get a form you are happy with, that shouldn’t be too big a problem.
Tomorrow, we’ll talk about how to set up split-tests within aWeber to track how well your opt-in forms are converting visitors into subscribers for you.
