This post is not intended for the die-hard Twitter fanatics among you. What I am about to share will not be a revelation to you. (In fact, I can already hear the collective “Duh!” from here.
)
However, if you are still on the fence about how useful Twitter really is – then, by all means, read on...
My relationship with Twitter has always been an uneasy one. I still don’t know if it will ever be the passionate love affair I have with say…my WordPress blog. But, I can see it evolving into one of those comfortable relationships that stand the test of (Internet) time – however long that might be.
At first, I thought Twitter was something celebrities used to let the world know they needed to go to the bathroom. Oh, and the whole 140 characters thing? I’m a writer, darn it. What the heck was I supposed to do with THAT??
To say I missed the whole point would be an understatement.
Anyway, as time went by Twitter became more and more difficult to ignore. It seemed everyone I knew was asking me to follow them on Twitter via their email signatures, web sites and the like.
So, I took the plunge.
Slowly.
Tentatively.
Within a day, I had 3 followers. Woo Hoo! I had no idea where I was going, but it seemed there was someone willing to follow me. Turns out something about my picture (as I hadn’t tweeted yet) made them think that I might be interested in entertainment of the adult variety. (Um, thanks… but no).
Kidding aside, a couple of things opened my eyes to Twitter’s potential – even from a dabbler’s point of view. The first was my involvement in Lynn Terry’s Elite Membership Forum. I really respect many of the members there for what they have accomplished online – and Twitter is spoken there like a fluent second language. The second has been my own first-hand experience with the 90-Day Content Marketing Challenge. When I posted the results after the first 30 days, I noted that Social Media – and Twitter in particular – was largely responsible for the increased traffic I had experienced.
Hands down, Twitter-related urls are among the most popular sources of traffic flowing into the site.
Tomorrow, I am going to share how dropping the ball on my Twitter promotional efforts impacted my results early this month – and how you can avoid the same pitfall.
Til Next Time,
PS Feel free to look me up – and follow me – on Twitter @trishlindemood
Let me know you found me here and I will be more than happy to return the follow.
