In this week’s Tuesday Tips (my weekly eNewsletter), I talked about the benefit of creating a swipe file (or should I say “files”?) The point was to develop a way to capture interesting ideas as they come to you. Otherwise, the majority will be lost forever. (Assuming, of course, that your brain operates like mine does!
)
This is fairly easy to do online by creating a folder on your hard drive (i.e. “MONETIZE THIS!”) and in your email programs. Offline is just as easy once you get the hang of it. I use a simple hanging folder system that sits neatly on the top of my work space. I have a number of folders in there, each corresponding to the main topics I am working on right now. When I get an interesting piece of direct mail or see a great brochure or promotional piece while I am out and about – I add it to that tickler file.
Beyond sales materials, don’t overlook the value of print media such as newspapers and magazines. They offer a treasure trove of great ideas from how to craft attention-grabbing headlines to new angles to cover in your content.
Again, its all about “training your brain” to look for material that can benefit your readers – and by extension, your online business.
Til Next Time,
PS If you haven’t already, be sure sign up for WebCopyResults.com Tuesday Tips – the sign up form is the big blue box in the upper right hand corner of the page. In addition to offering tips on ways to improve your content creation and marketing efforts – there is also a Keyword Bonus where I share 5 keyword phrases that offer solid search volumes and a relatively low amount of competition. They each get the “green light” according to Micro Niche Finder. (In other words – you could rank for each of them if you decide to target them!) It’s like getting 5 new article ideas delivered to your inbox each week!

It’s crazy, I have a huge swipe file (well papers, sticky notes, a file folder, etc.) all over the place and I have good intentions of using the things I save but never do. I get paralyzed and not sure why. Maybe because it’s all so disorganized?
Crazy!
