Over the last week or so, we’ve been talking about how to get started with email marketing. When you create a new list in aWeber, you are asked to provide a URL for a “Success” or “Thank You” page. (This is simply the page where your subscribers land once they confirm their subscription to your list).

Keep in mind, you don’t have to create a special page for this purpose – you can simply redirect them to your site’s home page or your blog – or any other existing page on your site. However, you are missing out on a great opportunity to connect with your readers at the exact moment they are MOST interested in you and what you have to offer if you take that route.

In other words, creating a separate “Success” or “Thank You” page is a great way to connect with your readers and start building that all-important relationship with them!

Here are a few things to include in your ‘Success” page:

  • Set expectations in terms of the frequency of communication they should expect from you and the benefit they will receive from it.
  • Tell them “What’s Next” – refer them to their email in-box for your first message, especially if it contains a link to the free giveaway or bonus item you offered as an incentive to sign-up.
  • Offer an unexpected bonus or special discount as an added way to say “Thank You” for their interest.

The actual mechanics of setting this up is quite simple, especially if you are using a WordPress platform. You just create a page like you normally would.  Therefore, you have the same flexibility in terms of adding images, removing sidebars, adding custom page templates or incorporating audio/video messages to your “Success” page. Make it as simple or as fancy as you want – as long as it is created with your audience in mind.

Finally, this page is intended only for your email subscribers – meaning you don’t want it to be found by the world – so be sure to “noindex” this page from within your admin panel. You might also want to give it a name that is a little harder to guess, such as /11Success or /ThankYou47.
