Other Benefits of Creating a Detailed Action List

by Trish Lindemood on September 10, 2009

I can’t believe we’re already 10 days into the 90-Day Challenge. So far, I’m doing a pretty good job keeping up with the majority of my stated goals – not 100%, but I am happy with what I’ve accomplished so far.  (Besides, there are still 20 days left in the month to complete the rest! :) )

Kidding aside, I knew when I created the Action List that I was setting “stretch goals” for myself – attainable, but challenging. Which is exactly what I need at this point – an in-my-face reminder that I have bigger, longer term goals than completing whatever individual project I am working on at the moment. Being reminded of that on a daily basis has been very, very motivating for me.

Another really great side effect of having the Action Plan printed out and hanging right next to my monitor is how much more efficient I have become with my time. I have really cut down on mindless online  “research” and non-work related tasks throughout the day. If I get stuck on a client project, I’ll take a quick 10 minute (timed!) break and then start working on an Action Item from the list rather than on something that doesn’t move me toward my goals.

I think it is important to remember that time is our most valuable resource – it really is the stuff that life is made of. Becoming more efficient and productive during working hours can only lead to a better and happier life. Don’t you agree?

I would definitely agree that being more efficient and productive will lead to a happier life but this is where I have the most trouble. I don’t stay on task and I’m quite unproductive lately so I’m trying to find the best ways to stay productive and need to set up some sort of publishing schedule for all the content I need to get out there.

Hi Angie

Thanks for the comment. Have you tried keeping a time log yet? I just added a post about that – it might really help you keep up with the publishing schedule you’ve set for yourself.

Good luck!
